IGNITE Broward, presented by Broward County Cultural Division in partnership with MAD Arts, features immersive large-scale projection mapping and interactive light sculptures and installations in Fort Lauderdale and Dania Beach, Florida.

What is IGNITE Broward?

From January 25th through January 29th, IGNITE Broward offers five days and nights of free immersive art experiences. The festival takes place at two locations (in Dania Beach and Fort Lauderdale), with daytime and evening options to attend. Keep reading for more info!

What’s the difference between the Fort Lauderdale and Dania locations?

The Dania location offers indoor experiences and is open daily (10 AM – 8 PM, with extended viewing until 10 PM on Friday and Saturday nights).

Everything in downtown Fort Lauderdale takes place outdoors in the evenings (6 – 10 PM, and until 11 PM on Friday and Saturday). Each location features five incredible art experiences by international artists.

Where will the art be located in Fort Lauderdale?

Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s Esplanade Park features four installations that are located in the park’s gazebo, along the Riverwalk, among the trees on the west side of the park (below the Broward Center for the Performing Arts), and at the park’s center. Cross the street and you’ll find a fifth installation projected onto the facade of the Mu-seum of Discovery & Science (MODS).

Where in Dania will the art be located?

The installations in Dania Beach are all located inside Mad Arts at 481 S. Federal Highway.

Do I need to register and how much does it cost?

You do not need to register, but if you are planning to attend, we invite you to reserve a spot via Eventbrite, so we make sure to accommodate everyone.

Are there other special events I can attend?

There are several – from chances to meet the artists to a panel about NFTs, poetry readings, and other live performances! You can view all of them here.

What if it’s raining?

The IGNITE Broward festival takes place rain or shine!

Can I bring kids?

Absolutely! All of the art on view during IGNITE Broward will be an exciting experience for all ages.

Can I take pictures?

Photos and videos are encouraged! Use the official hashtag #IGNITEBroward to have your shares/posts featured by @BrowardArts and @madarts_space.

Are pets allowed?

Leashed pets are welcome at the Fort Lauderdale location. Only service animals are allowed indoors at the Dania Beach location.

Travel and Parking?

Dania Beach:

Parking is free, with a parking lot adjacent to the building on SE 5th Street. Find directions here

Fort Lauderdale:

Car: Parking garages and metered street parking are available immediately surrounding the downtown Fort Lauderdale location. The closest parking garage is the Arts & Science District Garage on the corner of SW 2nd Street. For directions, click here.
Boat: View the art from the Intracoastal. There is also a free water trolley that will bring you to the downtown Fort Lauderdale location. Find your route here.
Train: Take the Brightline to the Fort Lauderdale station, which is two blocks from IGNITE in Fort Lauderdale. Kids ride for 50% off and you can get to and from the station with Brightline+.
Tunnel closure: FYI the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel will temporarily be closed January 23-27 so please plan to use an alternate route if you’re traveling near or around the New River Tunnel underneath Las Olas Boulevard.

Are there bathrooms?

Yes, ADA accessible bathrooms are available for the public at both locations.

Will there be music?

There will be sound components at most of the unique installations to provide an immersive experience that activates all your senses.

Can I bring food? Are there places to eat nearby?

You are welcome to bring your own food to the nightly outdoor installations in Esplanade Park. The park’s greenspace will be open throughout the duration of each evening, so feel free to bring a blanket and relax on the lawn with a picnic!

There is also a wide variety of restaurants within walking distance of the Fort Lauderdale activation and nearby the Dania location. Here are some options:

What else can I do in the area?

There’s lots to do nearby! Some options:

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale is offering buy-one-get-one-free admission throughout the duration of IGNITE Broward.
Broward Center for the Performing Arts is adjacent to the Esplanade Park artwork, so catch some art on your way going to or from a show.

Can we go into the Museum of Discovery & Science (MODS) too?

The nightly activations take place after MODS has closed. However, if you catch a late afternoon showtime at the museum’s IMAX theater, you will walk through one of the IGNITE activations when you exit the theater at night.

IGNITE Broward is presented by Broward County Cultural Division and is produced by the creative solutions firm, Mad Arts. Sponsored by Visit Lauderdale and the City of Fort Lauderdale, IGNITE is also supported by Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and the Mu-seum of Discovery & Science.

Is the art ADA accessible? I want to make sure all my friends can come.

Yes, of course! All installations will be accessible for everyone to attend.

How long should I plan to spend at IGNITE?

Your visit can be as brief or as long as you want. We recommend allowing yourself about an hour to experience the art at each of the two locations.
